For twenty-five years, I have been a devoted, patriotic citizen. However, the last six months have made me question my love for my government and the integrity of which it stands.
The story begins just over one year ago. As many before me, I was forced to move away from all of my loved ones (including my longtime girlfriend) to find work. I was fortunate to land a job as an Hourly Energy Trader - though extremely stressful, a highly respectable position which normally takes years in the industry to obtain. Working up to 80 hours per week, I found little time for anything else other than sleep. My free time was almost always spent alone with a book, a magazine, or a remote in my hand. Most of the people I met frequented many of the local bars. I do not enjoy the effects of alcohol so these activities were not a consideration. I did, rather, enjoy the relaxation of a joint every now and then particularly after work. Not wanting to rely on society’s drug dealers and the risks associated with them, I made the mistake of deciding to grow my own marijuana. I didn’t need much, which allowed me to keep the operation very small and confined to my closet.
The evening of June 6th before leaving for work, a posse of cops with a warrant and their guns drawn awakened me. For the most part, these government officers were very cordial. They allowed me to call in sick to work (an action that is unacceptable in my position) and assured me I would be released from jail that evening, as this was my first encounter with the law. They proceeded to inform me that they did not view me as a criminal; however, “this arrest increases our stats for promotion.” Three days later I was able to post my bond from jail (where marijuana use is overlooked). Fortunately for me, my friends were able to make the drive to Indiana to get me out.
I immediately retained an attorney feeling extremely grateful in his confidence that I would not receive strict punishment. These sentiments were reaffirmed throughout the judicial process upon learning that the judge and he had a friendly relationship and trust outside of the courtroom. With my attorney’s recommendation, I opted for a bench trial.
The day of the trial I was shocked to see a different judge presiding on the bench. The replacement was a much older gentleman who seemed about three generations out of touch with society. With no evidence of distribution from the arrest (baggies, names, money, guns, etc.), the police dropped the distribution charge. Additionally, my attorney made it clear that it was a maintenance man of my apartment complex who had phoned the police after entering my apartment to check on a reported water leak in the apartment below mine. Nevertheless, the judge made up his own mind that I was a drug dealer. He also failed to realize that the total weight of the marijuana in my possession is a misrepresentation of the actual consumable weight. In other words, three ounces turns into three pounds when the plant is weighed without allowing it to dry. The punishment was extremely harsh. In his exact words, “we need to keep our eye on you.” I was sentenced to the maximum penalty of 90 days house arrest, a $5000 fine (plus court costs, home detention fees, drug interdiction fees, and probation user fees), 180 days suspended driver's license without work privileges ($1500 to get work privileges), 545 days probation, and a felony on my record. I would have received a lighter sentence for a DUI, theft, or assault. As a matter of fact, someone driving in the rain without his or her lights on is more of a hazard to society than myself.
I now possess a criminal record that will follow me for the rest of my life most likely prohibiting me from acquiring many jobs or promotions. With college loans and the $15,000 from this ordeal, it will take me years to get ahead in life including starting a family. Under house arrest, I have already missed Thanksgiving and going home for Christmas is not an option. I cannot even tell my mother or grandmother the reason, as it would break their hearts to think of the pain and drama I have been living. Additionally, I will not be able to attend the family vacation at the break of the New Year. Since the arrest, my stats at work have declined (which affects my end of the year bonus), and I feel myself sliding into a depression. Once notorious for laughter, my character has changed to one filled with bitterness and anger.
The irony of this ordeal is that marijuana is not ruining my life, rather the government is. I would not have any problems if the government had stayed out my home and not interfered with my simple life. The country is no better with me off of the streets. Actually, I think it is just a little bit worse.
If I honestly was intent on selling marijuana or even had brought it out into society, you would not be receiving this letter. It troubles me that the government needs “to keep an eye on me” when ten million illegal immigrants are able to roam freely in this country. It troubles me my pursuit of happiness has been stripped away from me. Life is too short.
I am looking for someone to give me an explanation (other than to increase police stats) as to what good is coming from this? Why has my life been flipped upside down? Please keep this in mind as you answer: In high school I was vice-president of my class (four years), co-captain of the football, baseball, and weightlifting teams. I also earned an honors diploma. Graduating in four years from college, I was able to accomplish my lifelong goal to acquire a pilot’s license. Additionally, I was the Treasurer of my college rugby team of which I received Rookie of the Year and MVP honors. I am a responsible taxpayer with an excellent job who has never had any trouble with the police before this. Please tell me where I have gone wrong in my life to deserve this.

I saw Bill Maher on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno tonight. I am sorry to tell you, he comes off like that annoying uncle everyone has that never finished high school and fixes cars. That uncle that talks like he knows all there is to know about politics and the such, but in reality knows little to just a little more than the average person. He is well articulated, but the points he made were stupid. I will focus on his "philosophical" perspective about women not golfing. The issue was raised of women not being able to golf in a professional tournament. Bill asserted that men golf to get away from women, so that is a reason for women not to golf in the tournament. I do not believe his logic follows. Men go golfing with other men to get away from women, I will grant that. However, the professional circuit is another issue. Men do not golf in professional events in order to get away from women for a day. I do not believe that the spectators are there in an attempt to get away from women either; they are there to watch the golf match. So his logic, although makes sense for a friendly game of golf with colleagues, does not hold for professional golf.

I really miss your TV show, not because I agree with your politics - but, because I loved to see the look on your face when the single conservative you selected to gang up on for the evening made a point that was not only quite logical but irrefutable. Seeing the little boy caught-with-his-hand-in-the-cookie-jar look on your face made the left wing political garbage spewed out by you and the other three liberals on your show absolutely hilarious.
I always wondered why you called your show “Politically Incorrect” when the liberal views expressed on your show were “Politically Correct” from a Hollywood point of view. The name of your show was as dishonest and misleading as the rest of your views.
With respect to your purchase of a highbred car – did you ever wonder how the hydrogen gas was produced? It takes a lot of energy (usually from coal, natural gas, or oil) to separate hydrogen from water and then compress it and store it. My guess is that it wasn’t the car but looking good to your liberal peers that really mattered to you.
Anyway I do miss your show.

Dear Bill, 7-2-02 I have always thought that due to the quality and content of your show, it really should have been at least an hour long. Does the network really think that you are going to hide under a rock or something??? For now I will miss your show, but the change will be good for you and all fans in the long run. There will be better and greater days ahead. I am glad to hear that Rob Scheider came to your defense in the begining. That's Rob. Back in 1984-5, I worked in a Comedy Club in San Francisco called the "Other Cafe". I worked the night shift because I was homeless person at the time and to be inside at night was my initial survial goal. I met alot of comedians there. Robin Williams, Dana Carvey (I use to tune up his guitar before his act), Bobcat the list goes on and on. Anyway, I saw Rob Scheider do his first audtion night. It was a Elvis style act and it was a big hit. Naturally he was asked to come back again. He did and his popularity grew. One night he came into the Cafe' really bummed out. I asked him what was wrong and he said, They think I'm just another Elvis act and said, you better just forget it if you think your're gonna get anywhere. I said, "Rob, Let me tell you something 95% of the comedians that come through here are complete assholes and you are not one of them. If I were you I would'nt listen to anything they had to say. The fact of the matter is your on top now and they are trying to pull you down. With that I asked him if he would like a coffe or beer and he said no thanks and I think he felt a little better. I have always wanted to talk to him about that, so if you talk to him again ask him if he remembers and if he does I hope I helped and that I am very glad for his success. Actually, not so much a fan. I think Maher has so much potential of being an intelligent, noble man. Instead, he uses his intelligence to defend opposite views. Nobody supports the terrorists. But he uses terms that make it seem like he defends them and then acts like everyone is stupid for misunderstanding. He's a liberal & a bigot at the same time. He hates women even though there are so many women that are smarter than he is. If all women are stupid, then why are women graduating summa cum laude from Ivy League college. At least us women are USING our degrees. He has a degree and he chooses to sit on a leather chair and piss on all that is good about this country. Marriage is a blessing if you marry the right person.Having children is a blessing. No, not everyone has to get married or have kids. Thank God he doesn't. But you dont have to piss all over it. Maher has no right to say half of the things he says. He doesn't have experience with "REAL WOMEN"..Playboy bunnies don't count as intelligent, reasonable women. GOOD RIDDANCE. I'll miss his passionate debating skills but I won't miss the fact that he is absolutely OUT OF LINE, RUDE AND AN ASSHOLE CELEBRITY MOST OF THE TIME. I hardly think it's fair for him to criticize politicians and military figures that work harder in one nanosecond than he does in 10 years time. I know you agree that our government consists of a bunch of downright crooks, but it gets much worse than that. I fear that while you are an advocate for the truth, you will stand with the majority and refuse to believe the truths, which are substantiated by news reports. I am writing you in hopes that you will some day accept the possibility that our own government helped execute the terrorist attacks of 9/11. The evidence that I, and many others, have gathered is overwhelmingly conclusive. Did you know that Newsweek reported that Pentagon officials cancelled flight plans in the week before Sept. 11. Are you aware of the Carlyle Group, of which both the Bush and bin Laden families are primary shareholders? It's a defense contract group, and it's profiting from the "War on Terrorism", which is nothing more than the "War on Drugs" with a new name, and a slightly more horrific agenda. They are using the attacks as justification for the implementation of a global government. Even the OKC bombing was controlled by government agencies. Ask yourself this: why was the top anti-terror agent in the FBI checked into a OKC La Quinta 9 hours before the bomb(s) even went off. Bomb experts have already concluded that there is NO WAY that the single mere truck bomb could have caused all of that devastation. They state that the bombs MUST have been detonated from the inside. Eyewitnesses of the bombing said they distinctly heard two bombs, though we are led to believe that there was only one bomb, so as to make McVeigh a more suitable scapegoat. Seismographs show TWO distinct spikes at the time of the bombing. The truck bomb was merely detonated to make it appear that it was the bomb in the van that caused the explosion. I suggest reading the reports of the experts and seismologists that shed light on this information. I would love to elaborate and site references to support my argument, but I already fear that somehow you will never end up reading this. Flight schools in both Minnesota and Arizona made it quite clear to authorities that there were possible terrorists training there. Now we know that the NSA received a warning in Arabic on 9/10 that talked of a major event. The plot thickens Bill. Whose story will you believe?

Hi.
I'm the person who posted the articles about Jihad. I forgot to identify myself in those postings. You may refer to me as boda sativa.
I have watched Politically Incorrect since the early days, and am possibly one of Bill's most ardent fans.
I am also presently obsessed with learning the truth about our "war" and the basis of the Islamic resistance and/or aggression.
Frankly, the more I read, the more freaked out I am getting. It has become clear to me that Islamists everywhere are becoming more active in their "Jihad," and are "delivering" Islam more aggressively with each passing day.
Perhaps I watch too much CNN, too much Politically Incorrect, too much Daily Show, too much Lou Dobbs (currently striving to redefine the "war on terror" to something more meaningful, such as "the war on radical Islamists." {I don't think that's strong enough at all.})
Start reading actual Muslim information, excerpts from the Quran, and listen to discussions carefully.
Even the "moderate" Islamic apologists cannot deny the armed conflict aspect of Jihad (including pre-emptive strikes), and they cannot deny that the goal of Islam is to "deliver" the true religion of Allah to all peoples everywhere, until Allah's law is established worldwide. (Not that that's so fundamentally different from the goal of many Christians, but they seem to prefer more passive means of "delivering" the gospel these days. Christians have a truly deplorable past, true, but that doesn't excuse the Muslims from behaving in the same way now...)

Praise be to Allah and all prayers and blessings be upon the mercy sent unto this world, the Prophet of epic wars, Muhammad bin Abdullah (SAWS) and whoever follows him with benevolence until the last Hour.
Allah (SWT) says: "Think not of those who are killed in the Way of Allah as dead.
Nay, they are alive, with their Lord, and they have provision. They rejoice in what Allah has bestowed upon them of His Bounty, rejoicing for the sake of those who have not yet joined them, but are left behind (not yet martyred) that on them no fear shall come, nor shall they grieve. They rejoice in a Grace and a Bounty from Allah, and that Allah will not waste the reward of the believers.
Those who answered (the Call of) Allah and the Messenger [Muhammad (SAWS)] after being wounded; for those of them who did good deeds and feared Allah, there is a great reward. Those (i.e. believers) unto whom the people (hypocrites) said, 'Verily, the people (pagans) have gathered against you (a great army), therefore, fear them.' But it (only) increased them in Faith, and they said: 'Allah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us).'
So they returned with Grace and Bounty from Allah. No harm touched them; and they followed the good Pleasure of Allah. And Allah is the Owner of Great Bounty. It is only Shaitaan (Satan) that suggests to you the fear of his Auliyaa' [supporters and friends (polytheists, disbelievers)], so fear them not, but fear Me, if you are (true) believers. And let not those grieve you [O Muhammad (SAWS)] who rush with haste to disbelieve; verily, not the least harm will they do to Allah. It is Allah's Will to give them no portion in the Hereafter. For them there is a great torment. Verily, those who purchase disbelief at the price of Faith, not the least harm will they do to Allah. For them, there is a painful torment.
And let not the disbelievers think that Our postponing of their punishment is good for them. We postpone the punishment only so that they may increase in sinfulness. And for them is a disgracing torment. Allah will not leave the believers in the state in which you are now, until He distinguishes the wicked from the good. Nor will Allah disclose to you the secrets of the Ghaib (unseen), but Allah chooses of His Messengers whom He pleases. So believe in Allah and His Messengers. And if you believe and fear Allah, then for you there is a great reward." [Quran 3:169-179]
To begin with, and before mentioning anything else, we assert that Sheikh Usama bin Ladin (may Allah protect him) is safe and that he is in a safe location. He is blessed with good health, prosperity and worthy companions with whom he strives and prepares his next phase. As per the hadith of the Prophet (SAWS): "Whoever does not thank the people does not thank Allah," [Ahmad, Tirmidhi], indeed, the Base (Al-Qaida) sends its thanks and gratitude to whoever has joined it and to whoever walks in its path, either with their lives, wealth, tongues or especially with their supplications. We designate our memory to the tribes of Afghanistan and Pakistan, who have opened their hearts and their actions to us, who also introduced us to their sons and relatives and supplied us with their food, beverages, clothing and shelter, may Allah reward them with good deeds. Indeed, the glory of religion and the blessings of the Hereafter is theirs by helping the Mujahideen and by standing with them. How could they not support us, when the proud imperialist British forces were destroyed on mountain rocks that belong to these tribes?
Dear beloved Ummah, rest your eyes and do not sadden. Indeed, what has happened in Afghanistan is a slip up that will heal soon, with the Permission of Allah (SWT). And know that the sons of Allah's knowledge are still bound to their promise with their swords held up high and with their souls set on their palms, desiring what Allah has to offer, their slogan being: "We have ridden hardships,
We have donned resistance. Let us raise a force that will dominate the existence."
O Ummah, indeed, happy are the ones of your children that were chosen by Allah and were martyred by the Crusaders' bombs. Indeed, with the Permission of Allah, each of them will have the reward of two martyrs. Blessed is the one who is covered with a medal on his body (an injury). These wounds will increase his levels (with Allah) and will wipe away his bad deeds. As to the one who is afflicted with capture, seek Allah's Help and we promise that we will work on freeing him and that is a duty on every Muslim that is capable of doing so, be certain of this. As for condolences, they are for the ones who have left the marketplace of martyrdom and who have not been blessed with life under its shadows, hoping to grasp it in another location.
We foretell our Ummah that Allah (SWT) has given us, and whoever is with us, success in planning a Jihad program that corresponds to our present phase and has also given success to the changing and unfolding events. All that has affected us in Afghanistan will not hinder our motion and it will not impact what we have resolved on attaining. Indeed, your sons (O Ummah) are the sons of the Base of Jihad (Al-Qaida). They have prepared and are ready for days like these. No decision will bear upon them, no matter what, until they attain victory or the Eternal Life. "Verily, the home of the Hereafter - that is the life indeed (i.e. the eternal life that will never end), if they but knew." [Qur'an 29:64]
With the realm of this message, we would like to confirm that the declarations made by the American Minister of Defence pertaining to our casualties and losses, indeed 90% of them are sheer allegations and lies. To clear things up, the number of the Mujahideen that confront the Crusaders' invasion is much smaller than what is declared by the Crusaders and this is due to the fact that the current phase is in need of small numbers. However, in their eyes, our small numbers appear to them as very large, due to Almighty Allah's help to us. You should know, O Ummah, that the number of martyrs within the ranks of the Mujahideen - we ask Allah (SWT) to accept them as such and we trust He will give them their due reward - do not amount to a quarter of the total casualties of the Crusaders and the apostates.
Indeed, we have killed from both sides (Crusaders and their allies) close to 6,000 since the beginning of the battle and the numbers they have killed from the Mujahideen - thanks to Allah (SWT) - do not even reach a quarter of that amount (1500), out of which a little more than a tenth represent Arab casualties (approximately 150). One has to take into consideration the great differences between our capabilities, preparations, support and arrangements and those or our enemy. Indeed, we are still in the beginning of the battle and in front of us lie ahead rounds and rounds. "And soon will those who do wrong come to know to what destination they are destined." [Quran 26:227]
Remember, O Minister and likewise the White House Goof, that your frightened soldiers escaped from Aden (Yemen). They were defeated in Somalia and kicked in Kenya and Tanzania. You received the deep backstab in Aden again and you were slapped in the middle of your sanctuary in New York and Washington - and that is all sheer success from Allah to the brigades of good deeds from the children of our Muslim Ummah. Indeed, good is still present in our Ummah and the days to come will prove to you that you will not be able to evade the stronghold of the children of our Ummah, no matter how long your oppression lasts and no matter how great your evil (shirk).
As to your standing with your own people, it can be summed up by the words of Allah (SWT):
"Thus he (Pharaoh) befooled (and misled) his people, and they obeyed him. Verily, they were ever a people who were Faasiqoon (rebellious, disobedient to Allah)." [Quran 43:54]
May the American people understand this and may they be certain that we are - thanks to Allah - watchful over their actions. Indeed, the American system was born from the American people, it is part of them and it belongs to them, and similarly, to the Jewish nation in Palestine. We and Sheikh Usama (may Allah protect him) are bound to an oath which we have given to Allah (SWT), not to humans, that America, and whoever lives in America, will not dream of safety, until safety becomes a reality for us living in Palestine, until all the soldiers of the disbelievers depart from the land of Muhammad (SAWS), until all our children return from the American and Cuban prisons and until all the glory and strength returns to the Ummah of Islam, which will lift the banner of Tawheed (the Oneness of Allah) up high, so that it can control and elevate the world and it will not be feared except by the submissive and the shallow ones.
May every person that cooperates and works under the Banner of the Cross, from leaders who have paved the roads for them, to clans and individuals that have fought with them, know that the Last Hour is coming. Indeed, those people will only have themselves to blame, those who sold the Hereafter for the world, those who turn back on their heels in loss and have caused mischief to their Ummah, which has nothing to do with them.
As to the heroes of the blessed Jihad in Palestine, who have bloodied the nose of the Zionist enemy and forced him to ask for a truce. Indeed, know that the Arab leaders that recently held a summit in Beirut hide behind it to cover their laughter and their true allegiances. With their so-called summit, they extend their right hand to Sharon, and with their left they stab the heroic people of Palestine in the back. They diminish the enthusiasm of our Islamic nation, they seal off its victory and they secure the future of the Jews in the region, whose flags are still raised over their homes. Indeed, they work on burying Jihad alive, whose fragrance has filled the horizons with the blood of the purified martyrs due to their cunning. The one that has built this heroism is indeed the Palestinian people. As to the Arab leaders, they beg the Americans and the Jews in order to keep their authority which derives from them (Americans and Jews). As to the ones who derive their authority from Allah (SWT), they will not receive anything from them but the sword.
The Jihad in Palestine is only represented by that heroic people of Palestine and the Islamic nations who support it. As to the ones who barter with the bloods of martyrs at a low price, they drug the consciences that are faithful to the truth with monetary compensations. Indeed, know that the blood and souls of martyrs cannot be bought or sold or bargained upon and its only price tag is the surrender or extinction of the Jews and the death of whoever allies them.
To begin with, those Arab leaders, who have hidden behind their people and who have released evil demons to suppress them, should have built their armies and readied them for days like these.
Indeed, they are the ones who have exhausted the wealth of the Ummah in order to stabilize their authority upon the rights of the Muslims and their religious freedom.
O our beloved Ummah, we implore you to make available your full support, in terms of weapons, wealth, men and supplications, to be able to carry on the blessed Jihad in Palestine, while confirming that Jihad today is ordained upon all nations which are in the vicinity of Palestine, and after this, to the entire Ummah wherever they may be, to fight this rambling enemy and to continue defending the vulnerable borders.
O Ummah of Islam, shun your rulers and destroy your straps and your limits.
Transcend them while desiring what Allah has to offer, wishing his satisfaction, while being afraid of his annoyance and revenge. As to the heroic, Mujahid [one who performs Jihad] and Muraabit [one who guards the land] people, indeed Allah (SWT) says to them and to the believers: "O you who believe! Endure and be more patient (than your enemy), and guard your territory by stationing army units permanently at the places from where the enemy can attack you, and fear Allah, so that you may be successful." [Quran 3:200]
Until we meet again in the land of glory, Palestine.

May I recommend a truly "refreshing" explanation of Jihad in modern times? (I've been finding all kinds of this stuff...)
In this article, Sheikh 'Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Humaid, ex-Chief Justice of Saudi Arabia, has presented Jihad in the light of Qur'an and Sunna. Never before such an article was seen, describing Jihad in its true colours-so heart evoking and encouraging! May Allah bless him with all His Blessings for all times.

JIHAD IN THE QUR'AN AND SUNNA
Praise be to Allah swt Who has ordained Al-Jihad (the holy fighting in Allah's Cause):
1. With the heart (intentions or feelings),
2. With the hand (weapons, etc.),
3. With the tongue (speeches, etc., in the Cause of Allah)
Allah has rewarded the one who performs it with lofty dwellings in the Gardens (of Paradise).

So it is absolutely obligatory upon the Islamic nation, and particularly upon the religious scholars and the rulers from them to be obedient to Allah (swt) and to be dutiful to Him and to settle the matters of differences amongst themselves and to propagate "The invitation to this religion (Islam) to others specially the off springs, publish its good aspects, and instruct (teach) the people its (Islam's) laws and wisdom as did the Muslim nobles of early days." They (Muslim nobles of early days) strove hard in Allah's Cause as they ought to have striven with sincerity and with all their efforts that His (Allah's) Name should be superior... They stood... inviting people to Allah's Religion (Islam), explained to them the good aspects and the excellence of Islam and that was the reason their kingdom was extended and their countries expanded, and they subjected others to its (Islam's) teachings. It was not long before their descendants deviated from the Right Path, tore themselves into pieces after they had one united entity, they doubted the Truth, so, for them the path was separated and they became as groups (and sects) having different (views and) opinions opposing each other in their aims... So how can they be elevated?... How can there be any progress or priority possible for them while they are following the disbelieving nations, they drag along behind them, pursue their ways and footsteps and imitate their actions, small or great.
They judge their people with the contradictory (man made) laws which conflict and clash with the Islamic laws, which were the origin of their honour and pride and in which was their peace and steadfastness. Allah (swt) said:
Do they then seek the judgment of (the Days of) Ignorance. And who is better in judgement than Allah for a people who have firm Faith? (V.5:50).
We beseech Allah to make victorious His Religion (Islam) and to make superior His Words and to lead all the Muslims to that in which His Pleasure is-Amin.

Jihad Arabic: jihād
Islamic term, Arabic for 'battle; struggle; holy war for the religion'.
Jihad has two possible definitions: the greater, which is the spiritual struggle of each man, against vice, passion and ignorance. This understanding of jihad has been presented by apologetics of modern times, but is an understanding of the term rarely used by Muslims themselves.
The lesser jihad is simplified to cover holy war against infidels and infidel countries. This kind of jihad is described in both the Holy Koran and in the hadiths. Muslim law has divided the world into two entities, dāru l-'islām, the abode of Islam, and dāru l-h arb, the abode of war. Battling against the Abode of war was a duty for a Muslim, as this is the only way for the peace of Islam to take the place of the warlike conditions of the infidels' society. Jihad can be both defence, as well as attacking an enemy.
The enemies of Islam are divided into two groups, the Peoples of the book, āhlu l-kitāb and the pagans, the kāfirūn. The first group, defined as Jews, Christians, Zoroastrians, and Mandeans need only to submit to an Islamic ruler, and live in peace with other Muslims to end the situation where jihad is imperative.
For the pagans there is a principle fairly similar, but they get less rights under the Muslim ruler than the Peoples of the book. While this group generally can live safely inside a Muslim society, some Muslims have propagated that these should either convert to Islam or face death penalty. In situations where the Muslim rulers mean that war has to be waged against the infidels, they should be allowed sufficient of time to convert before the Muslim army attacks.
Jihad is a duty for every Muslim community, but not necessarily for every individual: it's sufficient that a certain number of the the able men perform jihad. The one who dies in the battle against the infidels, becomes a martyr, a shahid, and is guaranteed a place in Paradise as well as certain privileges there.
While offensive jihad, i.e. attacking, is fully permissible in Sunni Islam, it is prohibited for some of the larger groups of Shi'i Islam, which consider only the Imam, now in occultation, as carrying the right to decide to go to war or not.
The Kharijis regard jihad as the sixth pillar of Islam, a position that other groups of Islam have adhered to earlier.

I also installed one on an old truck in an auto wreaker and it took three big men 4min. 56 seconds to remove it, only by braking the floorboard because of too ridged a base. This has since been redesigned to be flexible. It was encouraging to see one person could not remove it. It is loose enough installed, that it cannot be cut with a hacksaw, since it is made with good strong steel. The lock cannot be frozen because it is incased with steel and a small air space. These men ! tried with hammers and feet to remove it and only exhausted themselves. Since joy rides and theft of vehicles for the purpose of committing a crime are the main reasons for general auto theft, I know this will be a very good and secure type of vehicle theft deterrent. I have a U.S. patent and applied for an international patent with the help of a company in Ireland, who have done up for me a confidential research report, on North America, and Europe and are at this time trying to find manufactures all around the world that would be interested in building this device that I call "Brake Lock. There is some simple electronics that serve as a trade mark, as well as takes care of the brake light problem. I recently have had interest from England and Illinois and hope to get a positive response from them. Auto theft is a huge problem everywhere. I know it will make a difference. But it will only make a difference if people will use it. Written in response to those suffering from patriotitis, where the gland regulating nationalistic sentimentalities swells to immense proportions causing a loss of bloodflow to the parts of the brain responsible for reasoning and general cognation.
PI is one of the few shows that doesn't stick to the buzz compliant jingoist journalism crap. And once you actually stop spitting out the spin words, canned responses, and palatable plattitudes and start discussing real issues you almost can not avoid pissing people off and it also becomes difficult to clearly express things. Orwell was quite right about his double speak except it has been around since the existence of man. Language is an abstract representation. Most people are only comfortable when they're beliefs are only expressed in the ways they have heard them over and over.
Bill claims he meant the military leaders and not regular Joe army when he said the US military has acted cowardly. (I tend to believe him because really do you think Pvt Chuck from Idaho is making battle plans.) So tell me, if he is so wrong, what is honorable and upstanding when the US shells the hell out of Iraq and destroys so much of its infrastructure that the end result is more than 1,000,000 people, mostly children and women, dying from starvation and disease. All because their leader is a tyrant and the US doesn't have the balls to do the humanitarian thing and kill the monster they made.
It is exactly at times like these we need people in public forums (fine fora) who will say the unpopular things--not the talking dimwits that spew rehashed political agendas like Dr. Laura or Rush Limbaugh. Maher is one of the few hosts I've seen who actually has a firm belief in the US and cares about it enough to openly criticize it when he believes it is doing wrong. Other hosts (ones that are actually respectable as opposed to the two above) rarely delve into their own views or if they do tend to express them as hypothetical or third person reporting.
Believe it or not the US and its elected officials are wrong quite often. In some case there is no right or wrong there are just sides. But US foreign policy is almost always to protect US interests--maybe that is the way it should be. But not questioning that is just plain unamerican. And when we protect our interests it is often at the expense of the residents who happen to live near those interests.
In the 80's we were helping Sadam Hussein fight Iran, early 90's training Afghanis (including bin laden) to fight a civil war and Russia, now we are going to help the Northern Alliance fight another civil war--do we see a pattern. When the Northern Alliance actually held power they too were committing crimes including rape and torture. I don't claim to know what the right thing to do is but it should be obvious that continuing to disenfranchise the rest of the world so that we can drive SUVs isn't working out too well. Apparently however it's fine with people like Oprah Winfrey when the people it isn't working out for are in a foreign land where we can wash our hands and say "as long as our interests are ok we aren't gonna make much of a fuss."
The US has played an almost entirely reactive role--not bothering with anything until there is a threat to US interests. Then we go in and take revenge, piss off the locals, occasionally replace one regime with an equally bad one--then the cycle happens again.
If the US wants to play world leader it needs to be done responsibly not like a ham handed school yard bully. We export billions to the governments and people who we think will protect our interests, including millions to the Taliban for stopping poppy production. You know what, I'd rather have opium (and heroin for that matter) be legal. Economicly it makes the most sense--creates a legit cash crop, brings in tax revenue, keeps the price down, lowers crime, and doesn't throw fairly harmless people in jail. But too many people in the US have abdicated their ability to think and instead trust the government or the talking heads on tv to let them know how they should *feel* about things.
And I do not mean any of this as justification or a belittling of the deaths in the WTC. The attacks were obviously horrific and deplorable--but ignoring that the US government has some blame to bear and has also killed many more innocents in the guise of our self interest is foolish.

That's mainly where you and I have a large difference in opinion. I grew up in a military household with the firsthand knowledge of how flawed the military can be, and how terrible they can screw up. Calling our military actions cowardly was a very tasteless remark during this tragic time, and I feel it was unnecessary. You of all people should appreciate our "cowardly" military actions, because without them, your ethnic homeland (yes that's right, Israel) would be nothing but a smoking hole in the desert. Basically, I just started watching your show recently. It is a decent thing to watch after 2nd shift but dont expect a worshipper. Apparently and even blatantly after watching this night's show, some of your opinions have just too much relevance for your guests. It is sad to see: how uneducated the "creme de la creme" truly are. Unfortunately at some point, life seems to have become scripted. But your show questions that script regularly. Maybe a misterm there, that is, maybe it is cynical to think that life is scripted. But lets face it how oblivious are the people that make the rules and how inanely simple does life seem from people like me and you's end. I watch the news and stay pretty well abreast of politics. It is difficult to watch too much, because the news can be truly sad. Basically, my request is this... Please do a show on China-Taiwan-U.S. relationship soon and please send the single and only answer: We need to love each other. Fuck religion to do it. It is only separating people more. Or here, do a show on human nature? GET ALONG WITH EACH OTHER could be the topic, and you could have panels from all across the world. Or, have me and my friend on the show...the next generation we will start it off for ya.

I honestly think I have searched out a way for addicted people to kick heroin and cocaine. If you are a friend of Robert Downey Jr., could you get this information to him? This substance being illegal in the U.S., but helping thousands of people in Europe should be right up your alley.
Ibogaine is a broad spectrum 'interrupter' of addiction to 'hard drugs' - including heroin, methadone, cocaine, amphetamines, ethanol and nicotine.
Ibogaine is an psychedelic alkaloid derived from the African shrub Tabernanthe iboga, which has a history of use as a medicinal agent in West Central Africa and is traditionally used by native tribal people. In Europe and the U.S. Ibogaine has been found to have anti-addictive properties. The major published scientific evidence for Ibogaine's effectiveness includes case reports in humans, and demonstrations of reduced drug self administration and withdrawal in animals.
It is not a maintenance drug. It eliminates addictive craving in most cases after just one dose, with no withdrawal symptoms. The effect is long-lasting, but not always permanent - some return to their addictions but often not for months or years. 10% return to their addiction within two weeks of treatment.
Perhaps the strongest evidence for Ibogaine's effectiveness are the accounts of the addicts themselves, whose demand has led to the existence of a historically unprecedented, unofficial treatment network involving the addict self-help movement. A recent study summarizing 33 cases treated for heroin detoxification in the existing informal network, indicated efficacy in the rapid elimination of signs and symptoms of withdrawal in 91% of the patients.

Millions of dollars are being spent by the US government and the drug companies on 'anti heroin vaccine' research and other false trails. These programs have mainly resulted in profits and benefits for the drug companies, as for the addicts on the streets the programs have yielded no positive benefits. Meanwhile something with proven potential is stonewalled and forced underground. Ibogaine is legal in Britain but illegal in the United States. All this points to the political subtefuge behind much of the so called 'Drug War'.
Current resistance to Ibogaine may well be partly based on the fact that the prospect of a highly successful treatment for drug addiction is threatening the two main vested interests currently involved in drug treatment programs; those behind the Methadone programs being 'sold' world wide on the back of the 'Drugs War' and those behind the '12 Step' and 'Narcotics Anonymous' movement who can not accept that a psychedelic drug can help.
A fundamental policy problem also exists with regard to the development of pharmacological treatments for addiction. The private sector's weighting of expenditures and incentives regarding decisions on drug development can be irrational from the larger standpoint of society. In the private sector, which controls the vast majority of funding for drug development, decisions are based on weighing the expense of development against the expected profit.
Both the costs and potential profits are large; the cost of developing a drug in the U.S. is now on the order of tens of millions of dollars, and profits may reach billions. In the public sector however, the economic incentive is not profit, but the saved costs associated with preventing social and medical morbidity such as crime, HIV, or hepatitis. The magnitude of the saved costs associated with successful treatment is potentially very large, on the order of many billions of dollars. Yet, U.S. public expenditures are small relative to those of the pharmaceutical industry, or to the potential societal return.
The entire NIDA annual budget for medication development, which accounts for about 90% of U.S. public sector spending on developing pharmacotherapy for addiction, is only approximately 50 million dollars, a fraction of the cost of bringing even a single drug to market. The private sector, which bears most of the expense of drug development, makes decisions based on the probability of liquid profit, and not the magnitude of saved costs to society. Ibogaine represents an example of the potential of free market capitalism to motivate decisions that are irrational from the larger standpoint of society.
Unfortunately, the U.S. pharmaceutical industry has generally not viewed addiction as an attractive area for development. Ibogaine is regarded as particularly unattractive, because its mechanism of action is complex and incompletely understood, and it's patent is close to expiration. I guess you and most of your guest are medically incompetent. Having been in the medical field for over 10 years and in the heart cath lab ( where the stent procedures are performed) for the last 5 years, I will tell you that an angioplasty and stent are not normally a big deal a very minimally invasive procedure that usually takes less than 30 minutes from start to finish. There are numerous sites around the country that perform these procedures on an outpatient basis, go in in the morning and go home that afternoon. I think you are making a big deal out of nothing. So what he had a heart attack that doesn't make him an invalid that can't do anything anymore. People that have coronary artery bypass grafting (open heart surgery) are usually made to get up and walk the next day, it has been proven they recover faster if they get up and start moving around. But you guys want to make a big deal out of Cheney walking out of the hospital. Find something else to talk about. cvteq01@cs.com
